Job Summary

As a Project Manager within BioTeam’s Program and Project Management (PPM) Team, you will serve as a primary interface with our clients. You will work with our Scientific and Technical Consultants and other Leads on projects ranging from assessments of our clients’ scientific and technical environments to implementations of technical roadmaps. You are experienced, passionate, and knowledgeable about project management and client relationship management, have a keen business acumen, plus prior experience working with Advanced IT infrastructure and / or Scientific projects. The ideal candidate for the Project Manager role will consider themselves a veteran of project management and will demonstrate proven success in leading project teams in the delivery of on-time, on-budget, and in-scope projects with the highest quality outcomes possible. You are experienced in determining, managing, and aligning expectations of both client and internal stakeholders. While you do not need to have deep hands-on technical or scientific backgrounds, you should be comfortable with scientific IT-based projects, and be generally familiar with scientific jargon.

This role may include working multiple days a week on client sites if required for projects, and additional travel as required.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a good understanding of “why” we are doing projects to provide the best possible outcomes for our clients. Experience eliciting requirements from customers and prioritizing, etc. is a plus. Ability to understand the project’s goals in relation to the client’s overall goals (and BioTeam’s goals) are key.
  • Ability to judge and sense when changes are needed, and comfortable escalating to the appropriate stakeholders as required for course correction.
  • Support project teams to better enable BioTeam consultants and clients to define their scientific and technical needs, and then translate those requirements into a strategy or deliverables suitable to the client.
  • Provide day-to-day project management, planning, and implementation of multiple projects utilizing BioTeam repositories, tools, and techniques. These projects may span several areas across BioTeam, and may happen simultaneously and or with other Project Managers depending on the size and complexity.
  • Manage projects throughout their entire lifecycle, considering costs; scope and objectives; budget; and client success as examples of critical success factors.
  • Develop materials for all aspects of the project lifecycle, such as for project kick-offs and closeouts (lessons learned.)
  • Collaborate with the PPM team and other stakeholders to develop new tools and templates that not only serve projects, but other areas within the organization.
  • Create weekly or periodic status reports for customers.
  • Ability to write and coordinate the development and delivery of monthly status reports to clients.
  • Influence the sales and proposal process with capturing project data and lessons learned to feedback into the process. May also support proposal writing and development alongside other colleagues for new business.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to monitor and control the overall health of projects. Experience with creating internal and external status reports; creating risk and issue management trackers (such as RAIDs, risk registers, etc.), financial, legal, and general business understanding are also helpful.

Background and Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in the Life Sciences/Advanced Sciences and/or IT industry required
  • Previous experience as as Project Manager or Business Analyst is required
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Information Technology, Science, Business, Management, or a related field is preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Business Analyst (BA) certification desired, but not required
  • Interpersonal skills, such as proactive communication, both verbally and in writing, are desired. Experience with tools and techniques regarding capturing client requirements, creating visualizations, and general documentation/reporting formats are also a plus.
  • Must be comfortable interfacing within all levels of BioTeam, as well as within client organizations (Ex. Management, Executive Leadership, etc.) as professionalism and presence are key!
  • Comfort with ambiguity and change is desired
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport with both external clients and internal team members
  • High level of empathy and emotional intelligence
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Organizational and time management skills, proactivity, exceptional follow-through, and ability to juggle multiple priorities while keeping projects moving forward
  • System-level thinker with a deep attention to detail

  • Experience and desire to work remotely

  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be comfortable with up to 25% domestic travel
  • Living in the DC - MD - VA area is highly desired.


Work Environment

  • This job primarily operates in a home office environment, as well as at client locations. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

  • This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
